An interesting piece by Rosabeth Moss Kanter:


It seems this has strong overtones of John Kotter's first step in his 8-step change leadership model, namely "Create A Sense of Urgency". It seems Kanter and Kotter both feel that appreciating the downside of not changing and being clear on what this will mean to everyone in the organisation is a key step to making change happen. Kanter takes the additional view that fear of the change itself is also helpful and intimates that appreciation of the difficulties it will cause for colleagues is also an essential part of the process.
